Powerball - change for Better
Powerball fans, take note: your favorite game is going to change as of January, 2012. The changes include a higher price for tickets but also better odds of winning and a larger starting jackpot to sweeten the pot.
Twenty Years Old
Powerball, the American game based on the Australian lottery game of the same name was created in 1992 and quickly grew to become one of the most popular games in the history of American lottery games. Today, the game is played by people all over the world thanks to sales via the Internet and is sold in 42 American states plus the US Virgin Islands and Washington DC. In total, since its inception, the Powerball game has generated $33 billion in sales which has been shared with prize winners as well as with various lottery commissions all over the country.
About the Changes
The first change that players will notice is that Powerball tickets, which had cost just $1 since the games inception, will double in price to $2 each as January, 2012. However, some other subtler changes will more than offset this change in price, making the game much more attractive to players from all over the world.
Better Odds of Winning
The first change is that the Powerball game is going to improve the odds of winning. They’re doing it by making the pool of numbers you need to choose from smaller. Players of Powerball will remember that the game requires you to pick 5 numbers out of a pool of 59 along with a secondary “power ball” which is picked from a pool of 39 possible numbers. The new Powerball game will require picking the power ball from a pool of 35 choices, meaning that the chances of winning anything at all will be improved slightly and the chance of winning the jackpot will improve significantly.
Bigger Jackpot
Speaking of winning the jackpot, the new Powerball game will also feature a larger jackpot for those who do win it. As of January, 2012, the starting jackpot for Powerball will double from $20 million to $40 million, meaning that the chances of winning more than $100 million in the game improve significantly since the roll over feature of the game will allow the new Powerball jackpot to reach $100 million much more quickly.
