Megabucks

Even though Oregon has been a member of the Multi State Lottery Association (sponsors of the Powerball Lottery game) for some time now, the state lottery commission continues to offer their very own Oregon Megabucks game as well. The Oregon State Lottery Commission was created in 1984 and the first Oregon Megabucks ticket was sold a year later.

The state lottery commission also offers a number of other popular games, including the aforementioned Powerball game, Keno, Pick 4, Lucky Lines, Video Lottery and a raffle, though their flagship lottery game remains the Megabucks Lotto game, which is played three times per week, on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.

Game Type

The Oregon Megabucks lottery game is a standard, 6/48 style lottery game. That means that you have to choose a total of six numbers out of a possible 48. If you get all six correct (the numbers are drawn from a drum which has balls numbered 1-48), then you win the whole thing and take home the cash jackpot.

Progressive Jackpot

Speaking of the jackpot, like most American lottery games, the jackpot for the Oregon Megabucks game is progressive. This means that the amount of money you can win goes up three times a week until someone walks away with the whole thing. The jackpot starts out at $1,000,000 though, so you want to be sure to wait until it’s had time to progress and get a bit larger before you buy your tickets.

How to Play

As with virtually all modern lotteries, the Oregon Lottery Commission instituted a quick pick feature quite some time ago. This allows you to let the computer pick your winning numbers, rather than having to fill out the form yourself. You are of course free to pick your own numbers as well, though the Quick Pick feature means that you don’t have to do so. The game is open to anyone over the age of 18 who cares to purchase a ticket and Ohio Megabucks tickets are also sold online at specialty sites which offer the game along with many other lottery options.

The odds of winning the jackpot in the Ohio Megabucks Lotto game are 1 in 12,270,000. Second prize odds of winning are 1 in 48,696. Third prize is award to approximately every 1 in 950 players and the odds of winning the fourth prize are 1 in 53. The overall odds of winning something in the Oho Megabucks lottery are 1 in 25. The record jackpot was $34,000,000, which was won in the 2005.
